Here are the girls last year when we are about to go haunt the neighborhood in our very best Disney Princess costumes. Thank goodness neither want to be one this year. Don't get me wrong. I don't think they're all bad or I wouldn't allow any of the helium sucking princess movies or books in the house. Belle is cool because she likes to read and doesn't seem to mind her reputation for being unique. And Pocahontas is probably my favorite because she's based on a true story. The others I could seriously do without. I'm to blame though for exposing them to it because I could be relentless and just ban it all but somehow just letting a few Cinderella stories be read early on opened up"a whole new world." (Ha! From Pocahontas, I think.) And it's too hard to go back. Once they see her pretty yellow hair and pretty dresses and Gus and Jaq, the mice, it's over. Once I tried to sell the Princess storybook in our yard sale and later that day I found that book hidden in a spot in the garage. So, I just try not to make a big deal about the princess thing only explaining to them that you don't have to get married in order to find true love. To love and be loved is the point, but, I say first find it in yourself, get a college degree and THEN you live happily ever after! The end.
